Gov. David Paterson on Tuesday vetoed the Legislature’s effort to create new ethics oversight panels for elected officials and to require more financial disclosure by lawmakers to help thwart political corruption. Mr. Paterson said the proposals did not go far enough, particularly since the Legislature itself wanted to appoint the panel that would take charge of policing lawmakers. The governor said he hopes to negotiate a new ethics bill with lawmakers, if the state Senate does not override his veto.
